How Long Does It Take To Recover From A Facelift?

A facelift is a transformative procedure that allows many patients the confidence and freedom to feel like themselves again. However, those considering this procedure tend to worry about recovery from such a delicate surgery. A facelift can look different for every patient, depending on your unique facial structure and the aspects of aging you wish to combat. Recovery can look different depending on which facelift procedure is performed, but most procedures’ basics of the healing process are the same.

When you choose a highly trained and qualified facial cosmetic surgeon, your recovery can be much easier than searching for the cheapest facelift. Regarding delicate surgeries like the face, you only want skilled, expert surgeons performing such precise surgeries.

Facelift Recovery Timeline

A facelift, Raleigh, NC, recovery can look different for everyone, depending on your genetics, lifestyle, and specific surgery. We have created a general timeline of what to expect to help you feel more comfortable with your facelift recovery.

Week 1

Once you have undergone a facelift, the first week will likely be the most intense time in the healing process. On the first day after surgery, you will need to get rest and may feel drowsy. Between days one and two, you will most likely need pain medication to promote proper rest. You will likely be unable to return to work or do daily activities for the first few days.

By the end of the first week, the swelling and bruising should have begun to fade, and any discomfort should have eased. You can move around gently by this point and do some normal chores and daily activities if your provider clears you.

Week 2

During the second week of your facelift recovery, you may still have some bruising and swelling in specific face areas. You may also feel tingling or numbness around the facial area as the skin and muscles begin to heal. By the end of week two, you may be able to return to work and normal activities.

Week 3 & 4

You will notice the last swelling and bruising begin to fade in weeks three and four. The numbness and tingling should gradually disappear, and you may only be left with some tightness. You will begin to see the actual results as the muscles and underlying tissue begin to settle.

Final Result Expectations

While you may return to normal activities after a month or so, the final results may take longer before they fully appear. This is because it takes time for all the tissue, skin, and muscles to settle into place and find the perfect balance on the face. The final results can take three to six months before they finally settle, but they are more than worth the wait.
